Nature

Lower Inn European Nature Reserve (20 km)

Partly on the German and partly on the Austrian side of the border, this nature reserve is probably one of the best bird-watching areas in Bavaria. It is one of the most important stop-over points for intercontinental bird migration, and up until now, more than 300 species of bird have been found here. Bavaria Park (50 km)

A large activity park south of the Danube near Dingolfing with lots of fun for the children. Great fairground rides for all ages, as well as a chance to learn more about nature.

Großer Arber (130 km)

At 1456m above sea level, this forest-free mountain is the highest mountain in the Bavarian Forest. The summit is a protected nature area and is accessible by cable car. In winter it is possible to take part in winter sports.

Bavarian Forest National Park (100 km)

With its high forests and upland moors, the Bavarian Forest is a unique nature resort. It has been a protected national park since 1970, and since then around 25% of the land (around 24,250 hectares) has remained untouched and left to grow wild.

Silver Mine Bodenmais (120 km)

The silver mine, which was first mentioned in 1313, is now an exhibition mine.

Irgenöd Bird Park (22 km)

The largest bird park in Lower Bavaria is located in fantastic forest scenery near Ortenburg, and houses around 1,000 birds, from 200 different species and from all continents of the world. The birds live in open-air enclosures or in large aviaries which are suitable for the species. In addition there is also a newly built ape house, and a restaurant with a playground to make sure everyone has great fun.

Massing Open Air Museum (40km)

Houses the beauty of the rural Rottal Valley: the rural settlements will be depicted with historic farms. Alongside everyday objects such as beautifully decorated cupboards, chests and ceramics, you can also marvel at the tractors, windmills and arched stables - and take to a historic skittle alley at the cosy beer garden for a great bowling party.

Mariakirchen Beer Garden (27 km)

This village of 600 inhabitants offers a picturesque moated castle - which is also home to the Mariakirchner Schlossbräu brewery.

Asam's Church in Aldersbach (19 km)

In this picturesque village you will find one of the most beautiful churches in Lower Bavaria which was built during the formation of the Aldersbach Monastery in 1146, and was furnished in the 18th Century by the Asam Brothers.
